A love affair

A love affair with food can be a rather unhealthy obsession. We tend to try to love people and ourselves through the consumption of food and we find a strange sense of comfort in food that we don’t find anywhere else. This comfort and connection with food usually means that we develop an unhealthy love affair with the comfort foods we associate with love. This is the perfect way to throw on an extra fifty pounds. We regard food as a means of expression rather than a healthy (or unhealthy) means of fueling our bodies.

Food is essential in our life, and because of its essential components we associate good times and good people in out life with a shared meal. While this is normal it must be reigned in a bit in order to prevent excessive weight gain that can accompany our social obsession with food. We can still enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of food without over eating and bringing a new level of unhealthiness into our lives. If weight gain is caught early it is easy to resolve. It becomes much more difficult when we mistake the full feeling of food with the full feeling of love. It is common these days to confuse the two and many people are paying the price with weight problems, and the health problems, that come along with an obsession with food. Moderation has always been the key to enjoying the social aspects of food while maintaining a healthy body weight.
